Why are my colleagues behaving strangely? 15 signs that people are insecure
Is one of your colleague behaving strangely? Has your manager’s attitude changed? Fear of getting fired, of losing a potential promotion or simply to look bad can trigger various reactions. You may not always understand where these behaviors are coming from so how can you tell the reason behind people’s behavior at the office. Below are 15 signs I frequently noticed that help me determine if people are insecure so that I can implement corrective measures to help them increase their performance and become more successful in their role.
- High need of recognition
- Amplifies their success
- Doesn’t share information
- Doesn’t give credit to others
- Makes every situation about them
- Wants to be in the spotlight
- Doesn’t accept feedback
- Worries he/she will miss out some critical information
- Surrounds himself/herself with weak individuals
- Puts down other people
- Doesn’t delegate
- Takes credit for other people’s accomplishments
- Wonders what others think of him/her or say about him/her
- Doesn’t trust others
- Acts as a victim
Next time you notice some of these signs, you may want to take a different approach to increase your chances of achieving your goal.

Excellent post !!!
I think that insecurity works, in this specific context, in two layers, connected in the person, and his/her specific biography (temperament, character and circumstances)
From a corporate / work / career perspective, the person might be fearful to lose (in the short term by losing a job / opportunity), from the medium long term by hurting career goals
From a personal perspective, depending on the biography and culture, the person might have a weak baggage of virtues / competencies, that make him/her insecure
Some of the items mentioned in the list are, to a certain extent, compensation mechanisms. They compensate for the lack of inner strength, in facing external circumstances.
You are right. Fundamentally, they are compensation mechanisms to protect the individuals sense of “self-worth”. At the other end of the spectrum, trust in others demonstrates a strong sense of security and can be a longer lasting coping mechanisms for potential weaknesses.
